The most beautiful lake in Europe

This little Venice of the Alps is well worth a visit from Annemasse or Saint-Julien-en-Genevois. It is 25 minutes away by the A41 motorway or 1 hour away by regional road. This city, famous for its quality of living, is a joy to discover. The décor is breathtaking. Its main attraction is the lake, famed for its purity and surrounded by mountains. During your visit, you can enjoy a trip on board the Libellule ferry along the shores of the lake and its charming villages: Talloires, Menthon-St-Bernard and Veyrier on the right bank and Sevrier, Duingt and St-Jorioz on the left bank. You can also get even closer to the lake by taking a pedalo or paddleboard, or even by bicycle, as there is a cycle track running all the way around the lake.

Annecy boasts numerous heritage tourist sites. There is the old town with its paved streets and canals, the old prisons, and even the château looking out over the roofs of the city. The Tourist Office organises guided tours and a series of events to liven up your stay.

There is the animated film festival in June every year on the banks of the Annecy lake, the famous fireworks on the first Saturday in August, the Venetian carnival, the festival celebrating the return of the cattle from the mountain pastures, as well as paragliding, ski and foot races. The Aravis resorts are only a few kilometres away: La Clusaz, Manigod and Le Grand Bornand.

Finally, the cuisine is worth a visit: tartiflette, raclette and potato fritters. There are numerous restaurants offering Savoyard specialities. You can also find these delicious meals with our partner restaurateurs in the Annemasse region.
