Vétraz-Monthoux is a rapidly expanding commune. Its privileged location, between town and country, makes it very attractive. The quality of life it offers to its inhabitants is one of its assets. If more than 9000 inhabitants are counted, which makes it the 3rd most populated commune of the Annemasse agglomeration, about 40% of the communal territory is in agricultural or natural zones. The territory of Vétraz-Monthoux is marked by the Monthoux hill, whose summit reaches 571 m and offers magnificent views of the Geneva basin to the west and the Alps to the east. A public park of nearly 2 hectares, at the top of the hill, allows you to recharge your batteries. It includes a chapel built in 1863 on the site of an old keep, remarkable trees, a vast meadow, a pond and playgrounds. In the center of the village, there is another public park with petanque courts, playgrounds and pedestrian paths. A few local shops are located in the center of the town, while the main shopping area is in the Bas-Monthoux district. More than 30 associations animate local life by proposing sports, cultural and leisure activities throughout the year. Among the highlights of local life are the Plant Festival organized over a weekend in April (the 21st edition will take place in 2020; about 70 exhibitors), the Summer Festival at the end of June with the installation of a giant water slide, the “Rêve de Montagnes” festival in September with film screenings every evening of the week and finally the Autumn Painting and Sculpture Show in November which brings together about 60 amateur artists every year.
