Hiking loop: Le Grand Piton, highest point of the Salève

This path runs up to the Grand Piton, the highest peak in the Salève range at an altitude of 1,380 metres. Its plateau is pitted with karrens. Panoramic views of the Franco-Swiss Geneva Basin and the Jura mountains, especially from La Thuile farm.
Starting from the small village of Beaumont, the Grand Piton hike will allow you to reach the highest point of the Salève mountain at 1380 meters altitude.

With a little difference in altitude, but without particular difficulties, this hike will satisfy you with its magnificent views. The plain of Geneva and Lake Geneva are offered to you once the summit is reached.

  • Tips
    A few miles from the village of Beaumont are the Bouchet cheese plant which produces cheese typical of the region, the Carthusian monastery in Pomier and the Maison du Salève discovery centre.
  • Guidebook with maps/step-by-step
    1/ From the "Parking de Beaumont" post, head for "Le Grand Piton (Tour Bastian) par La Thuile". You will pass the following signposts: "Despraz", "La Thuile (Chalet)", "La Thuile", "Sous Les Pitons", "Les Pitons", before reaching the "Grand Piton".
    2/ Once you've reached the Grand Piton (Tour Bastian), follow the same path back down to "Sous les Pitons".
    3/ From "Sous les Pitons" follow signs for "Beaumont (parking) (direct)". You will pass the following signposts: "Sur les Molliets" and "Chez Marmoux".

  • Access (by car): From Annemasse, join Collonges-sous-Salève (D1206), then Neydens (D18) and finally Beaumont. Parking is available next to the Beaumont church.
