This lake is located at the heart of the Fiz mountain range in the nature reserve of Sixt-Passy. Accessible only by foot from Sixt Fer à Cheval or from Passy by Anterne mountain pass.

Covering an area of 10 hectares, this lake lies at the bottom of an alpine circus surrounded by peaks, north of the Fiz cliff face. Although the surrounding environment appears to be rather wild, marmots and ibex still live here.
