It is difficult to date precisely the origins of the old mill, which is located below Carra, in Ville-la-Grand. It was recorded in 1637 and, in the nineteenth century, counted as one of the 13 Foron mills and among the 200 hydraulic establishments in the Geneva basin. At that time nearly 100,000 water mills provided plenty of energy that was both abundant and indefinitely renewable, along the rivers in France.
