‘The essential is invisible to our eyes, we only see it with our heart.’
Originally from Douvaine and currently living in the Giffre Valley, Emmanuelle has always had a passion for the mountain that dominates her surroundings. Discovering climbing in her teenage years was a revelation; she realised this was how she wanted to make her living. However, as the diploma to become a climbing instructor was very demanding in terms of technique, Emmanuelle climbed just for pleasure and took part in competitions while pursuing studies in biology. After graduation, she went to work for a pharmaceutical laboratory before meeting her current partner, who wanted to become a climbing instructor. Seeing this as a sign of destiny, Emmanuelle changed her path and sat the climbing diploma in turn. Together with her partner, they trained to complete the 17 routes required and improve their respective levels.
A climbing instructor for 4 years now, Emmanuelle has made a profession of her passion. As a freelance instructor, she takes advantage of this region’s vast choice of climbing routes to work with French and Swiss organisations.
With the Bureau de la Montagne du Salève, she works at the Salève cable car at weekends in the spring and autumn on the Grande Varappe wall, which is more than 20 metres high. She also works with the Douvaine Alpine Club, the École2laMontagne mountaineering school and the Swiss organisation Prise en Main. Emmanuelle works with people of all ages and levels. She offers initiation and advanced sessions, as well as regular lessons. She has an endless supply of fun exercises to help her students progress all year round.
Thanks to an in-depth understanding of her students’ expectations, Emmanuelle prepares her sessions by drawing on her own climbing experiences. In a region where climbing is a popular activity, she loves to discover new routes to share and finds transmitting her passion very rewarding. By sharing her knowledge, she hopes to see her students progress while adopting good safety habits and respecting their environment. Through her work, Emmanuelle also passes on human values such as team spirit, mutual aid and benevolence, which are all necessary qualities for this sport. A true athlete, she enjoys mountain climbing, paragliding and aerial silks in her free time. She is also a keen photographer and has embarked on a training course to improve her skills in this field. At present, Emmanuelle has new projects in mind, all linked to her beloved mountain.
